Repair Hole In Roof Felt

Repairing felt around the eaves a common problem is when roofing felt on a roof with an enclosed soffit disintegrates around the eaves of a roof.

Lay the upper sheet of tar paper 2 inches over the lower if two sheets are needed to cover the section. Blisters in the felt carefully clean the surface over and around the blister of any chippings mould and dirt. Insert a nail in the hole where water is leaking through the roof. Wind driven water that would normally flow down the felt and into the gutter instead drips onto the soffit and then back onto the ceiling of the room below through gaps in the felt. Slip the top of the paper in under the flaps of the shingles above the repair. Nail tar paper on with roofing nails over every 18 inches of the perimeter and along any overlapping sheets.
