Look underneath the vanity top for any fasteners holding it to the cabinet and remove these with a screwdriver.

Cut through any caulk between the vanity top and cabinets. Cut caulk between backsplash and vanity with utility knife. Remove the countertop very carefully to avoid wall damage. Start by cutting off water and disconnecting and removing old fixtures.

On the sides go all the way down to the floor as necessary to remove all caulk. In most cases the vanity top is glued to the cabinet and you have to break the glue bond by inserting a putty knife between the cabinet and the vanity top and tapping it with a hammer. Usually it is easiest to leave the faucet in place you can remove it later if desired.

Remove the vanity top. Lift the vanity top free from the cabinets below. If so unscrew and remove these brackets. Remove screws underneath cabinet.

With the sink gone it s time to get rid of your old vanity top. Unscrew the countertop from the vanity cabinets. Break the caulking seal attaching the back of the vanity top to the wall. Loosen the caulk between the vanity and the wall with a utility knife.

For large countertops and vanities having another person available makes the job easier. Lift off the old vanity top. Lift up the front edge of the countertop. Don t forget to clear out the vanity cabinet.

If the old vanity is marble or granite it will not be screwed on. You should also remove the doors because that will give you more room to work inside the cabinet.
